Sun Sets On Novell

It’s bound to happen sooner or later. Somebody will snap up Novell. My money would have been on IBM, but apparently Sun Microsystems is mulling over the acquisition. Novell owns SuSE Linux, which IBM uses, so it would sort of be a natural for Big Blue to finally take the leap. Instead, Sun sees value in owning SuSE, putting IBM on their list of “customers” long-term, given the commitment to SuSE on the Power server lines. Sun marches on, seeing a revenue increase and healthy profit in the past quarter, and they have a bit of a nest egg to work with when it comes to acquisitions. [Furo]
