Induce Act Draft Fails

The Associated Press is reporting that entertainment groups and consumer organizations were unable to reach consensus on a final draft for the Induce Act. This impasse has resulted in this legislation being tabled at least until the next congressional session, where it may or may not be brought back to life.

Both parties acknowledged that, because of the time constraints, a compromise was unlikely.

The entertainment groups feel that some form of legislation, like the Induce Act, is required to protect their intellectual property rights. On the other hand, consumer organizations believe that the broad sweeping language of the Induce act will have a “potentially enormous impact on innovation, creativity, and competetion. [ocomik]
