Q: I’d like to have quicker access to the shutdown function in Windows XP. Is there any way that I can create a couple of shortcuts that will shutdown and restart my PC? If I could put the shortcuts in the quick launch bar that would truly be the icing on the cake.
A: We’re all busy people, and we just don’t have time to navigate through a single menu to shutdown our computers. OK, that comment was filled with sarcasm, but in reality, many people really do want to have this shortcut functionality. It’s your computer, and you should be able to customize it in any way that you see fit. Some computer users prefer to have everything in front of their face, and if that sounds like you, it makes a lot of sense to have a shutdown and restart shortcut on your desktop. I personally prefer a clean desktop, and I try to get rid of anything that’s not necessary. For me, this isn’t a big deal, but for everyone else out there that wants to do it, check out this guide.
When you arrive at the site, you’ll have to scroll down quite a bit to find the beginning of the tutorial. Once you do, it’s very straightforward, and you’ll be done before you can say, “I feel strangely compelled to give Brandon Watts a chunk of my paycheck.”
