Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening Reviews

Well it seems like Capcom has returned to form with yet another top-notch sequel. The Japanese developer has released back-to-back highly acclaimed sequels to two of their most prized franchises. Earlier this year, critics were raving the newest entry in the Resident Evil franchise, and recently those same critics have been praising the return of Dante in Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening for the PlayStation 2.

GameSpy gave the game a 4 out of 5 star rating, while their sister site IGN gave the game a stunning 9.6 out of 10, calling it a near-perfect sequel. GameSpot handed out a lesser 8.6 out of 10, but were still impressed by the Capcom sequel.

Here’s a sampling of the GameSpy article:

The original Devil May Cry basically invented the sort of flashy, explosive combat mechanics so pervasive in console action games today. As such, it’s fitting that its latest incarnation serves as the best showcase of this type of gameplay to date. Dante, the series’ cocky half-demon star, has a wider variety of deadly combat moves, as well as a not-so-modest arsenal of infernally infused firearms at his fingertips. The ways in which both of these intertwine give rise to a combat system that’s impressive in terms of variety, and insanely satisfying in regards to visual impact. Simply put, it feels great to cut through throngs of enemies, blast at their prone bodies, and do the same to the infinite swarms that follow.

Forget the poor results garnished by the original Devil May Cry sequel and get your hands on the third iteration in the series. From the look of things, you definitely won’t be disappointed by the results.
