Ask Jeeves to be acquired for US$1.9 billion

Once again, who really cares? With the heat coming in from Yahoo, MSN and Google, is Ask Jeeves even an issue any longer? Not for me people. I am am using either Google or Yahoo. Anyway, Ars is reporting that Ask Jeeves has been acquired by IAC/InterActiveCorp for almost 2 billion. Are they seeing something here that I am not?

The search wars may get a bit more interesting, as number four search site Ask Jeeves is to be purchased (registration required) by IAC/InterActiveCorp for close to US$1.9 billion. While you might not recognize IAC/InterActive’s name, chances are you have used one of their sites: they own CitySearch, Expedia,, and everybody’s favorite, Ticketmaster. In addition, they also own the Home Shopping Network.

Ask Jeeves has long trailed leaders Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo when it comes to popularity. However, the company has made news lately with some of their recent offerings. In September 2004, they launched My Jeeves, a personalized search engine that allows users to keep track of their searches, write annotations about particular sites and searches, file results into folders, and share searches and notes via e-mail.
