RealNetworks Getting Into Mobile Games

I think this is a bit of a strange idea, but RealNetworks has decided to take a shot at the mobile gaming market. Well, can’t say it won’t be interesting.

RealNetworks Inc. on Wednesday said it has acquired Mr. Goodliving Ltd. for $15 million in cash, launching the online media company into the mobile games market.

The deal, which closed May 6, expands Seattle-based RealNetworks’s game offerings beyond the PC, and opens up the U.S. and Asia markets for the Finnish company’s titles, RealNetworks officials said. In addition, RealNetworks plans to offer mobile-versions of its existing library of games.

“Mr.Goodliving has a proven record of developing and delivering innovative mobile games content throughout Europe, where mass-market adoption of advanced mobile services is firmly established,” Rob Glaser, chairman and chief executive of RealNetworks, said in a statement. “By joining forces with Mr.Goodliving, we are now expanding our casual games business onto mobile handsets worldwide.” [Read the rest]
