I don’t think anyone out there would disagree that the mobile phone has invaded our daily lives. They are literally everywhere, it doesn’t matter what country you live in. I’m always amazed at how some people are literally glued to them. I’ve seen groups of teenagers in London walking around together and every one of them is talking on one. Are they all talking to each other or to another group walking around doing the same thing?
Who truly knows, but two headlines lately got me to take notice on how governments and businesses will start to use this addiction to phones to track us. This story and this story highlight how tracking technology built into the phones will help make our every movement known. While there are certainly going to be cases where this technology will help or save lives will it truly be beneficial to us in the long run? Along with RFID tags, every item we own and every movement we make will probably be logged into a database somewhere. At some point in the future, we will truly never be alone. Someone will always know where we are. Anonymity is slowly disappearing and most people don’t even seem to realize it – or just don’t care.
