Remember when Maxell just made cassette tapes? Ya, those all black XLS-II ones rocked! Well the cassette is dead but Maxell isn’t.
They’ve just announced the holographic disc of theirs that will hold 300GB of data to be released in “late 2006”. Maxell says that the new media can transfer data at a rate of 20MBps. If that doesn’t impress you enough, then note that it is capable of storing up to 1.6TB — uncompressed — per disc! The disc can be read at a smoking 120MBps bandwidth, too. Ouch, this thing is going to trash Blu-ray discs for sure! Bring it on, Maxell!
