Stories Of Geekdom

Well, I managed to survive the weekend. Heck, I even braved the malls as the onslaught of bargain shoppers filled the streets in what some might compare to the opening credits for The Drew Cary Show.

Things were grooving right along except the sudden realization that I was the family tech guy. This meant beyond a shadow of a doubt that I was going to be the one getting called on when (insert item here) is not working or did not come configured as originally thought. Between my family and friends, my time off this weekend was spent setting up, fixing and in some cases – ‘repairing’ tech devices.

Don’t get me wrong here, I am always happy to be of help. But sometimes it feels like us tech guys get lost in the shuffle. Well, that is until those we are helping mention just how much they appreciate our doing what we can to make an unpleasant event or circumstance a little less annoying. Christmas or not, it is nice to be acknowledged and even appreciated once in awhile. Thankfully this has not been an issue this year.

You know, I am willing to bet that a number of you have found yourselves in similar situations when your friends and relatives are in need. There may even be a number of you with stories of geekdom to share with the readers here? Well, if you have a story in which your PC talents saved the day for friends or relatives, I’d love to hear about it. And if I end up with enough of a response, I may even share your story with the readers here in this very newsletter…
