When the car won’t start, here’s a simple method used to determine whether your starter or your battery is to blame.
When you stop the car after driving for at least 15-20 minutes, try to start it a few times. If the car starts several times in a row without issue, your alternator is probably fine. If, after a period of time of sitting, the car fails to start, the battery is probably dead. So depending on what your symptoms are, you should be able to tell with this simple method.
Remember, when you go to buy a new battery or alternator, have the local AutoZone (or comparable auto center) test them for you. It’s never any fun to finish a job only to realize you fixed the wrong thing.
