On July 26, 2007 I posted an article here in which along with the opinion of Acer about Windows Vista, I asked the readers to answer a simple question. The question simple. “Do you like Vista?”. I gave three choices of Yes, No, and Not Sure Yet. Now I knew that when I posted this question, there were going to be both anti-Microsoft and pro-Microsoft comments. I also realized that the sampling of responses would be small and totally non-scientific.
But I also knew something else. Most people that read anything here at Lockergnome are experienced users. These people have been using various versions of Windows since Windows was in diapers. Like myself, they have faithfully upgraded their systems through various versions of Windows as they have become available over the years. I still have CD’s for Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, XP Pro & Vista. If I look really hard, I am sure I may still have floppies for DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.11 around somewhere.
But when I posted the Vista question, I also had a inkling of what the results would be. I figured the responses would be 25% voting yes, 25% voting Not Sure Yet and 50% voting NO. How could I guess the results in advance? Well my wife bought me a brand new crystal ball for my birthday. 🙂 Actually I read ever comment posted to all of my articles, surf many forums which discuss Vista and in general this just seems to be the norm. Since I am in the Not Decided Yet group, I don’t have to defend a Yes or No position.
But there was one sentence from Rick Hogan which gave me much thought, in which he stated:
“Obviously, some of these people just don’t like anything that is new.”
You know Rick, you might have a good point. I have had to look real hard at my relationship with Vista and to be honest, I guess my being undecided is because I like XP just fine. Maybe your statement about not liking something because it is new could apply to me. But there is more than just the newness. I personally have problems adjusting to the ‘feel’. Windows 95 thru XP did not pose any problems for me and I liked the feel of those operating systems. Vista just doesn’t ‘feel’ right to me. Just my 2 cents.
So the unofficial Vista poll results with 28 votes were:
YES – 7
No – 15
NOT SURE YET – 6
