Create A Custom Logon Prompt Through The Vista Registry

There are many ways that you can customize Vista. You can perform common customization tasks such as changing the look and feel of the Start Menu or desktop. However, aside from these obvious ones, there are so many other ways that the operating system can be customized. The only problem is many of them require editing the registry and as we all know, this is never recommended. So for those who are comfortable working within the registry, here is one way that you can customize the logon prompt.

Click the Start button and type “regedit” in the Search field to open the Registry Editor. Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL-MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Create a new string value called LogonPrompt and type in the text that you want to appear. The default message that normally appears is “Enter a username and password that is valid for this system.”
