Cloud storage is, in my humble opinion, not ready for prime time. If I had a dollar for every service I tried that failed for one reason or another, I’d be a rich man today. This is not to say that it does not have some place for some users. Rather, putting any real long term faith in it is a bit naive to say the least. Well, this has been my experience, that is.
I think services like Livedrive and Ubuntu One have their place in making sure that we can collaborate easier. But I am not of the mind that I am ready to put my complete faith into using these services with anything mission critical. Maybe it’s just me?
For backup, yes, online storage options are a great secondary solution. But I also back those up with localized external hard drive solutions as well to make sure that my data is protected as much as possible. After all, one can never be too careful.
