Rootkits hurt…all platforms. And most new desktop Linux users would have no idea how to really deal with with a rootkit in Linux or even what tool to use for removing it. Thankfully we are not without assistance thanks to options such as RKHunter.
Where things can get a bit sticky however, is working with the different types of rootkits. Firmware, kernel based and boot loader rootkits. All are dangerous, but each poses its own threat.
