Some people are very particular when it comes to spacing and alignment within a document. In fact, improper spacing and alignment can distract your readers, drawing their attention away from what is most important — the content and key messages.
When you’re proofreading your documents, you should check the spacing and alignment. You can do so in Word using the ruler and gridlines — both of which are disabled.
To turn on the ruler in Word 2007, click the View ribbon. Within the Show/Hide group, click Ruler. You’ll immediately notice a ruler along the top of your document.
To turn on gridlines, repeat the steps described above, only this time, select the Gridlines option within the Show/Hide group. When gridlines are turned on, Word places light gray gridlines over your document, which are extremely helpful when checking alignment and spacing.
