How to Log in to a 2Wire Router

2Wire routers (also known as residential gateways, which makes them sound a bit like things that should be guarding your driveway from paparazzi) have been around since 1998. And, even though the company’s been owned by Pace (from the UK) since 2010, it still churns out these router residential gateway whatever you want to call them thingamabobs with a vengeance.

I’m not sure what “with a vengeance” would actually entail, but the idea of a clandestine cadre of 2Wire router-prodding geeks in a secret underground research facility jamming out to aggressive music with lots of guitars and angry vocals while they plot how they’re going to stick it to “The Man” over an intense power lunch of Pizza Hut and Diet Dr. Pepper made me chuckle a little. (I’m easily amused, obviously.)

If you’ve come here looking for a way to log in to a 2Wire router, I hope you’ll find your answers. Let’s proceed (with a vengeance)!

    1. In your Web browser of choice, type or into the URL field.
    2. If you get a screen that looks pretty much like what you see below, proceed to Step 3. If you get nothing, make sure you don’t have a firewall blocking access!

How to Log in to a 2Wire Router

  1. System tab you see? Then click it, you must! Unlike most other routers, it doesn’t seem like 2Wire residential gateways are big on having default usernames and passwords, as this is the point where you’d usually be prompted for them. Knowing this, you’d be wise to set up a unique password now so that some sneaky punk isn’t sitting in a bush outside your house on his laptop and making one for himself! Click on that System tab, then System Password, and follow the instructions on the screen.

If you already have a password set, but you can’t remember it for the life of sweet Georgia Brown after the 2Wire router gives you a hint, click on “I still can’t remember the password.” You’ll then be directed to a page where you can reset it. In the field where it asks you for a System Key, enter the 10-digit key you’ll find on a label stuck to the bottom of your router. Like so:

It’ll then prompt you to enter a new password (and then again, to verify it). It should be as simple as that! If you find that you still can’t log in to your 2Wire router, leave us a comment and we’ll try to help!
