How to Start Your Very Own License Plate Collection

How to Start Your Very Own License Plate CollectionEver marvel over the stories a good license plate collection could tell if only it had the power of speech? License plate collector Dan Czarnecki of Milwaukee, Wisconsin writes:

Hey, Chris! I just watched your latest video, and now I’m going to share some tips with other people who might be interested in my passion: collecting license plates.

Start out small and don’t go too crazy at first. As you will soon find out, the art of license plate collecting can start to consume your money if you really get into it. But, in the future, if you do have the money to get at least one plate from every state, go for it.

Start off by collecting plates from states and countries where you’ve already been. As of right now, I have 20 plates in my collection, and I think that’s a pretty good start. A good bulk of them have been from places where I’ve been, and I’m happy with the number of plates I have so far.

Be sure to set aside room on the wall or in the space where you will be displaying these plates. Once you begin to speculate on how big your license plate collection will be, you need to make sure you will have the space for it. I have each plate in my collection (with the exception of pairs of the same state) hanging on my wall with nails. My wall is now basically full, and I have somewhat of a plan set in stone for where future plates will go.

Find some cheap plates where you can. Some very good places to look would be at a local fair or flea market if you have one going on, or you can even try a place like eBay or Craigslist. Wherever you look, you just have to be lucky to find a good deal. There are tons of sites online where you can buy license plates for collecting as well. If you don’t know where to start, just do a Google search for “license plates for sale.”

Have a good variety of plates in your collection. In my opinion, a good license plate collection has plates from various years, special issues, as well as other hard-to-find plates. The more variety in your collection, the more exciting it will be.

Make sure you are dealing with reputable sellers when buying your plates. Be sure to also know who you are dealing with before buying anything to ensure that you don’t spring into a scam. If a price on something looks too good to be true, it probably is. Just be careful, and you’ll be on your way to starting a great license plate collection.

Finally, have fun with it! If you have a channel already on YouTube where you’re uploading videos, start uploading videos of your license plate collection so the whole world can see it! I’ve been collecting license plates for about a year and a half now, and it has just become giant! People love watching these videos of mine, and because of how many people who are out there that share this same interest as me, there are just tons of license plate collection videos out there. The size of these collections may range from gigantic to small, but people like me who enjoy doing this love making and watching these videos!

I know this is not exactly 1,000 words, but there is only so much I can say about this passion. I think that this is something that is truly unique, and I think it would be awesome if you could feature this on LockerGnome so everyone can know about this interesting hobby of mine.
