Pod Coffee Makers: Why You Want One

Pod Coffee Makers: Why You Want One
There are some who would say that pod coffee makers (and non-pod coffee makers) are not toys. Because of the fun and happiness they provide, however, I contend the exact opposite. [Image shared by Suedehead via Flickr]
Nothing says “good morning” here in the USA quite like a fresh cup of coffee. It offers a quick pick-me-up to help combat early morning grogginess, and gives you an early break to shake loose the cobwebs that exist from the night before. There was a point in my life where I quite possibly drank more coffee than any other beverages combined.

So what do you do when you’re too busy to stop at your local coffee shop or grind your own beans? You could go with instant coffee and lose out on the flavor you’d get with a good quality blend. That’s not to say there aren’t good instant coffees out there. It’s just not my bag.

Pod Coffee Makers: Why You Want One

One popular solution is the pod coffee maker, like the Hamilton Beach 49970 Personal Cup One Cup Pod Brewer. These coffee makers come in a variety of brands and models, and they give you a quick, no-fuss cup of coffee with every bit as much flavor and variety you would expect from a traditional coffee maker. To top it off, you also don’t have to deal with the cleanup associated with filters and fresh grounds.

Pod coffee makers also give you an incredible selection of flavors to choose from. If variety is your “cup of joe” (see what I did there?), then this is certainly a quick and simple solution to consider. You can also save some money by going with a store brand version of the pods. Most manufacturers use the same pod style and allow for independent manufacturers to make pods of their own.

Pod Coffee Makers: Why You Don’t Want One

Pod Coffee Makers: Why You Don't Want OnePod coffee makers might excel in convenience, but they fall short on savings. Sure, you might save a pretty penny over a trip to the local coffee shop, but you’re still paying more than you would if you went with your own grounds. There are adapters out there for pods that allow you to use your own, but even those are iffy at best.

Some of the alternatives are very appealing. French Press coffee makers, for example, allow you to make a very quick and tasty cup of coffee with very little hassle. The Aerobie AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker is one such example. It doesn’t take a lot of room in your kitchen, and it makes a fresh cup of coffee in the same amount of time it would take with a pod maker.

Additionally, the espresso and coffee that comes out of these things is incredibly rich and well-filtered. If you like full flavor on the go, this is the option for you.

Whether you opt to go with a pod-style coffee maker, a French press, or some alternative out there, do yourself a favor and try out some of the incredible options out there. You never know where you might find that “perfect” cup.
