Well, people, are you ready for Vista? I hope you’re concerned about the answer to that, at the very least. Microsoft, though it seems to have been taking its sweet time, has finally loosened up a little on information about the new OS.

Microsoft has now taken the wraps off a brand new Web site that will hand you all the information currently available in a nice, neat package. There are numerous features of the site, including a beta system-checker that will take a system inventory and let you know if your hardware can take the heat. Not only that, but it will advise you as to the version of Vista you want to shoot for, depending on your answers to a series of goals when running Vista.

But wait! There’s more!

There’s a section that will give you minimum and recommended hardware for the job of keeping up with Vista. Once you get past the Get Ready area, hit the Home button on the site. You’ll find three sections beyond Get Ready.

There’s a section called The Experience. That gives you a hint about Vista’s multimedia handling capabilities. The Features button takes you to a rich area given to everything from Security to Help & Feedback. It actually goes into detail on features, which tells me that Vista may not be so far away as we may have been told. Some of the features in the list that I found interesting were the one on Sidebar & Gadgets, Windows Backup, Windows SideShow, and Speech Recognition. The Features pages don’t stop there. They break down into features for the home, for business, and for everyone.

Community takes you to a set of pages with links to internal Microsoft blogs, sites run by Microsoft MVPs, Vista newsgroups, and a lot more.

So RUN, do not walk, to the new Microsoft Vista site for much of the information you were starving for. A last (and amusing) note: The site does not play well with IE7. Since it will be an integral part of Vista, this is good for a laugh, at least. Before you write, yes, I realize that IE7 is still very solidly in beta!
