Finally!
Now all of us not lucky enough to be Microsoft MVPs or rich enough to pay for a rather high-priced MSDN subscription ($2000+) will be able to get our hands on a copy of the new baby from Redmond. At this point, Microsoft must have less than three months to get the final release candidate out the door, IF it can keep to the schedule it’s still defending.
Going for the link even before I started writing this (of course!), I was disappointed to find its servers overloaded. It’s not at all surprising; so many of us out here are lusting for a copy of the new OS, hoping to clear away the hype and find out what it has to offer (or what it lacks). Might there even be a hard drive failure or two as systems get thrashed with backups and installs? We’ll see.
Personally, I can promise to put the OS through some VERY tough times. I hope that the feedback and support servers are in better shape than the beta file servers, because I plan to send every little tidbit I can Microsoft’s way. I figure it’s the only way any of us can help to file the rough edges off before it goes gold.
Am I going to install it right away? Nope, sorry! I have some driver issues to deal with. Such is the norm for a new version of Windows. Many manufacturers won’t even throw out a beta driver until the final product goes out the door (don’t get me started on THAT issue!).
More as the saga unfolds!
