RFID chip maker VeriChip has announced that at least one Canadian hospital has become the first institutional customer of human-implantable radio ID systems. An eWeek article outlines VeriChip’s plans, which include other Canadian hospitals and the US military.
The thing that will raise the back hairs of any Baby Boomer is that these chips can be read at a distance, contain info you probably wouldn’t want to hand out to the entire world, and in some cases (like the military) may be implanted without your real consent or approval. Us old hippies will recognize this as a threat no matter HOW much spin the company tries to put on it.
