Today is a very special day for one of our very own. Lockergnome’s Brandon Watts, in conjunction with WeatherBug, released the latest revision to the programming language known as Leopard. Thanks to a number of meetings, planning, and plenty of research, WeatherBug has stepped up to the plate and decided to seize this opportunity for its educational division known as WeatherBug Achieve.
Wow, it seems like just yesterday that Brandon and I used to talk to each other in IM about the latest happenings here at the ‘Gnome. Brandon has come a long way from that young man I met (in person) at Gnomedex only two years ago.
When you have a free moment, I would urge all of you to take a minute and check this out. While you may note that there is currently no ability to create a full EXE installable application from Leopard, bear in mind this is a tool to teach some of the basic fundamentals of creating a software program from scratch. And believe me when I say this is simple to learn and use!
You know, I have a young nephew who is showing some interest in science and computers. Based on that, I am looking into plugging him in with the WeatherBug’s Leopard software. Seriously, what better way to get a young man’s feet wet in the world of programming? You just never know where something like this might take a young, growing mind…
