I was reading in the Lockergnome Forum a problem that was described as the installing of new RAM slowing down system boot. The person was inquiring how this could be, since the RAM he purchased was correct. Though the speed was 400, the system was using 333, which Crucial confirmed was correct. And one respondent wrote back that the system should take 2G without a problem and that the BIOS should auto detect the new RAM.

The next post states that the system was functioning properly and the reader surmised that the computer just needed to catch up to the new RAM.

WRONG!

IT”S THE COMPUTER GODS! Over the years I have fixed a bunch of computer systems and it never ceases to amaze me how there is always one stinker in the bunch that causes a problem. Even when I am 100% sure I did the repair correctly and it should work, the machine will just sit and refuse to function properly. My wife knows to stay away when she hears me say “The Computer Gods are at it again!”

Then for no reason at all, after a few boots, bang, the system works fine. Leaving me to scratch my head since I didn’t do anything differently. Most techs have been there and know what I am talking about. And I would guess that auto mechanics have their own ‘Car Gods” at work.

And when a client asks what I did to get it to work properly, I joke and say, ” I had to tackle the Computer Gods to make it work.’ Little do they know that I am serious when I say it. LOL
