I have always had a love for the simple text editors. I don’t need fancy fonts or hundreds of features that I will never use. All you need to do to keep me happy is give me a basic text editor with a few extra perks here and there. ConTEXT is one of the best freeware text editors on the market today.
So what is ConTEXT exactly? I could ramble on and on about it, but I figured you might like to hear it right from the developers of the program:
ConTEXT is a small, fast and powerful text editor, developed mainly to serve as secondary tool for software developers. It offers syntax highlighting support for the most popular scripting languages, including HTML, PHP, Java, VB, SQL, Python, Perl and many others – and of course plain .txt files.
It also includes a macro recorder, project support, bookmarks, and much more. ConTEXT is highly customizable and allows you to change syntax highlighting colors, cursor shapes, right margin, gutter, line spacing, as well as user definable execution keys and other things.
As you can see, this program does a little more than your average text editor. The good thing about that though is I do not have to look at millions of option boxes and clutter when I am using it. It is nice some of those tools are there, but give me a plain text editor and I will be one happy geek.
