A Toshiba Satellite M115-S3094 14.1″ Widescreen Notebook PC Intel Core Duo Processor T2050, 512 MB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, DVD SuperMulti Drive.

Well the middle daughter doesn’t know it yet, but this is what she is getting for Christmas. So why am I playing with it already? Because all OEM manufacturers have to put so much JUNK software on their system. I’ve been spending the past two days cleaning it off. And I also wanted to put on some software that she will need as well, like a good free anti-virus program and a good free anti-spyware program.

Anyway, this Toshiba M115-53094 is a nice little rig. It comes with a 14.1 widescreen that is bright and clear. The integrated GMA 950 graphics adapter should be just fine for Web surfing, home use, and watching DVDs. And it is powerful enough to play some older games. Though 512MB RAM is enough power to run this lappy, I may kick it up to 1G later on.

Other features I like are the keyboard layout – which I found very comfortable – and the sound. For such a small unit, the sound is great. You really notice just how much this unit packs for sound quality when viewing DVD movies.

The only annoyance I have found thus far is that the fan cooling system is a little loud for my taste. Or maybe I just have sensitive hearing. But in comparison to my Gateway, the mini-roar is noticeable.

Overall, I am more than satisfied with this unit, and hopefully the daughter will feel the same way. Gotta go. I have to get this wrapped and under the tree.

I’d rate this system a very good to excellent buy.
