It seems like billboards are making a come back to some extent. But instead of the traditional single scene billboards, digital is in. Advertisements can be changed or modified in a instant.
And who might be getting into part of the action? Google. Seems that there are rumors afloat that Google may be expanding into this type of advertising. And I can venture a guess to how this came about.
You see, I was born and raised in the Bay Area. And every once in awhile I make my trek back to the ‘homeland’ aka San Francisco, just to catch up with family and friends. And if you are not familiar with the Peninsula area just outside of THE CITY, it is fed my several major freeway arteries, the most famous of which is Highway 101.
101 runs all the way down through Silicon Valley and is notorious for it’s non-moveable traffic jams. So I can picture a Google employee stuck in traffic, staring at a stagnant billboard and saying “we can make a buck here also.” So there you have it. The whole truth, or half-truth, or non-truth about how Google is getting into the billboard market.
What’s even more interesting is that if all the rumors of what Google is doing come true, that $500 a share price may seem cheap sometime down the road. 🙂
