That didn’t take long. I had just posted a story about Dell’s new website [story here] and sited a few instances where readers were complaining about the amount of JUNK software that comes preinstalled, when I received a email about a program called “The PC Decrapifier”
According the program author, this software will remove most of the common junk, gunk, trialware, spyware laden garbage that the OEM’s feel necessary to install on a new computer system. His script program will only remove what you select. And the listing of programs is quite impressive:
“The user can select exactly what is uninstalled from the list below
- QuickBooks Trial
- NetZero Installers
- Earthlink Setup Files
- Corel Photo Album 6
- Tiscali Internet
- Wanadoo Europe Installer
- Get High Speed Internet!
- Internet Service Offers Launcher
- Dell Search Assistant
- Norton Ghost 10.0
- Symantec Live Update
- MS Plus Photo Story 2LE
- MS Plus Digital Media Installer
- McAffee
- Norton Internet Security
- Google Desktop
- Google Toolbar
- AOL US
- AOL UK
- MusicMatch Jukebox

I can’t emphasize enough that you use this script at YOUR OWN RISK. If it hoses up your machine in any way, I’m not responsible! But Enjoy!”
I haven’t personally used this software before, but if it helps remove the unwanted programs fast and effectively, it is worth a try. But as the author notes “use at your own risk”.
The software is available for Free here.
Thoughts, comments, or just to say hi are welcome. 🙂
