The saga continues with Linux…
I decided to give up on Ubuntu. Too many crashes and my system kept bogging down. A guy I know at work (who I discovered is a Linux geek) suggested PCLinuxOS. I downloaded the live CD and installed the OS on my computer. Here are my first impressions:
– Installation was quick and painless
– The graphics and overall look is much nicer in PCLinuxOS than it was in Ubuntu
– The load on my computer is a lot less and it runs a lot snappier than Ubuntu
What can I say other than what a difference a change in distro makes. I’m still trying to get it to talk to the XP boxes on my network and so far that is going as well as it did under Ubuntu i.e it isn’t working yet. Samba is not very user friendly and it really shouldn’t be this hard to make the computers talk to each other. Even my friend, who runs Linux exclusively in his house agrees. But I will say that my impression of Linux has improved with PCLinuxOS.
Stay tuned!
