Did you know that Word includes a tool called the Document Map? It displays a list of headings in your document in a separate pane. This is useful for quickly navigating a document, particularly if it is large.
Using the Document map is simple. Once it is open, all you have to do is click one of the headings in the list and Word will automatically take you to that location in the document. Keep in mind that in order to use the Document Map, your headings must be formatted using one of the built-in heading styles.
Do not confuse the Document Map tool with a Table of Contents. You create a Table of Contents for the benefit of your audience so they can find their way to specific sections in a published document. The Document Map, on the other hand, is there to assist you when you are working on your document.
