For many of us, spam has become a major pain in the posterior and we spend a lot of time just sifting through all of the junk mail. Over the years I have been blessed [knock on wood], with minimal amounts of spam. However, I have worked on systems in which there was more spam than actual real mail entering the inbox and the chore of deleting spam became a time consuming process. I recall one business client who was receiving over 400 spam messages a day, but he was reluctant to change email addresses since his Web site and business cards would have needed to be changed, and he was worried about losing clients. And though Outlook and Outlook Express come with spam filtering, they offer minimal protections and their filtering leaves much to be desired.

So last week when I heard about Spam Terrier, I though it would be worth a look to see how well, or not so well, this software would work in fighting the spam epidemic. There was only one minor problem. Like I said. I don’t get much spam. I hate saying that because now that I have opened my big mouth, I’ll probably be inundated by a spam attack. 🙁

What to do? I needed someone to try the software for me who had a semi-high spam rate and was using Outlook or Outlook Express with no other spamming software or filtering on their system. And the perfect candidate was one of my daughters who connects to a small ISP where she lives that does not employ spam filtering. She receives about 15 to 20 spams a day using Outlook Express. So she agreed to play guinea pig for me and tried Spam Terrier.

I spoke with her yesterday morning and she said not only was Spam Terrier easy to install and use, but that her spam was cut down to zero. She stated that once she told the software what to look for, spam was banished from her system. And she also stated the best part she liked was that the software was free.

Spam Terrier supports the following systems:
