Last week there were a number of articles splattered around the Internet citing a Microsoft VP who has been charged with getting more Vista drivers for the masses. I have also read that Vista came with 20k drivers, then I read another article that kicked this number up to 90k and lastly that there were some 4k drivers that were fueling most of the gripes about Vista.

STOP THE PRESSES! I don’t know about you but I hate it when my intelligence is challenged and when I get the feeling I am being treated like a mushroom – kept in the dark, and fed poop.

Microsoft, I am sure we will agree, is one of the largest corporations in the world and has more money than there are stars in the sky. This behemoth of a corporation has been referred to as ‘the thugs from Redmond’ on quite a few occasions for what has been alleged as bullying and underhanded tactics. Notice the word alleged. We are also aware that some of the largest OEMs, who are no small potatoes themselves, jump to the master’s whip when beckoned.

Now. We have also been told that it took the Windows gang five years to develop Vista. There was more press on this operating system than on all of the previous versions of Windows combined. It should not have come as a shock to anyone on the entire planet that there was going to be a new OS in town. Everyone was also aware that the BIGGEST headache in all previous versions of Windows was driver and software support. So we have all been there and done that.

Knowing all of this, can anyone explain why there are still 4k drivers still not written for Vista?

Microsoft with its clout could have told ALL hardware folks ‘heh guys, we are releasing Vista on this date and if you don’t have a Vista driver available, don’t bother. We are going to post your company name on a hit list saying ‘shame, shame we all know your name’ and give it to the press.”

Comments welcome.
