When you install Vista and your desktop appears for the first time, the only desktop icon that appears is the Recycle Bin. You will likely want to put a few of the familiar and useful icons back on the desktop right away. The process is similar to that in Windows XP with a few subtle differences.
To add icons to the Vista desktop:
- Right click a blank area of your desktop and click Personalize.
- From the list of tasks, click Change desktop icons.
- Select each icon you want displayed on the desktop.
- Click OK.
- Close the Personalization window.
