In another move of questionable intelligence, both artistically and commercially, word is given from the investigators at TV Guide.

‘Who is Will Traveler?’, which was almost immediately changed to simply ‘Traveler’, has been let go, with the last episode on Wednesday evening not resolving anything, and the prospects of further episodes virtually nil. The nil part comes in as the actors in the few episodes shot have had their contracts lapse.

When a little research is done, it appears that the zealots about television have an almost ‘jungle drum’ method of communication, since comments on several fan sites show dates of the comments concerning the inevitable fate of the show as early as July5.

With the ubiquity of cable and satellite penetration across the land, and the viewing of any of the big 3 networks, and Fox, at new lows, it remains to be explained why the executives of these companies continue to ‘doublecross’ the viewers they have for the shows they produce. The studios whine about eroded Nielsen numbers, yet they produce garbage, and once in a while, when they don’t, it gets cut, moved, recast, and otherwise neglected.

On ABC alone, this is just a small portion of the series that have been of reasonable quality, with ideas that are not retreads from the 50s and 60s, and do acceptable numbers in the first few episodes, yet get canceled. The Nine, Daybreak, now Traveler…soon the mark of a hit show will be making it through a full season AND having a series resolution at the end.

Just another small step toward the demise of ABC, NBC, and CBS.
