Tuesday the British government said no to an effort to extend the copyrights on sound recordings from 50 to 70 years. This seems only natural as the lifespan’s of people are increasing past 70 years on average.
In the United States, artists receive royalty payments for up to 95 years, while Australia has laws making 70 years the limit.
The British government stated the change would not affect many artists, and that the change would be difficult to implement across the European Union.
I wonder what Sir Paul McCartney has to say about this, as 2013 is less than 6 years away.
