So, how secure IS your system? Don’t know? Think it’s pretty secure? Maybe it is… or maybe it isn’t… want to make sure?
I’m sure you do. Well, there is a free service, that will scan your system, and check ALL your software – Microsoft, Adobe, Sun, Macromedia, Skype, Mozilla – the list goes on – and it will tell you what the most recent software version you have, and whether it has the latest patch(es).
Yes, you have to have a little trust, but I’ve used it, and despite that it uses up some resources during the scan, it is fairly quick (considering how many files it has to scan).
The service is free, and it’s hosted by a professional company – Secunia – and you can choose a default scan or an indepth scan. Don’t worry – none of this is reported to anyone and your system profile isn’t stored anywhere (as near as I can tell.)
The company specializes in vulnerability assessments and virus information.
I tested it out on my system several times, and either updated or removed older versions of unsecure software and apps.
It works on Windows XP, and Vista. I don’t know if it works on anything older, but I think it does.
To check it out and run the scan on your system, go to the Secunia Software Inspector and give it a whirl.
