Time for an upgrade, or is it? My old Cingular 8125 is just not as snappy as I once remember it to be. So I have been giving a lot of thought to upgrading to the Cingular 8525. Then came the realization that the only thing I am getting different here is the ‘speed’ of the phone itself. In short, from 200Mhz to roughly 400Mhz.

Surely there is a better way to do this and save myself the upgrade cost, new accessories and of course, another extended life battery? After a bit of browsing around, I located something called XCPUScalar. It’s software for Windows Mobile 5 that allows me to do exactly what I need – make my phone faster under a heavy load.

One thing I am very much aware of is potential harm to the phone and of course, locking up the phone completely. Still, you have to admit, the idea of overclocking a PocketPC does hold a certain charm.
