When it seems that so many news items are about athletes disgracing their sport, it is almost a surprise to see a team acting with some grace. Earlier this year, a minor league coach, Mike Coolbaugh, was struck by a ball during a game. He did not survive that incident. He was coaching a minor league affiliate of the Colorado Rockies.

The Colorado Rockies have announced that they are including Mike Coolbaugh’s wife, Amanda, in the proceeds from the current baseball playoffs. Amanda Coolbaugh will receive a full share of the playoff money:

“…Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said the gesture spoke volumes about the quality of the character in their locker room.

“I was passed on the information that they voted Amanda Coolbaugh a share, a full share, which I found speaks to their awareness, speaks to their passion, speaks to every good thing about them,” Hurdle said.”

Kudos to the Colorado Rockies. To the Coolbaugh family, undoubted this makes a huge difference in their security. These ball players, in the midst of a playoff run, took time to look after one of their own. That is simply stellar.
