My favourite keyboard of all times is: Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard 4000. I’ve been using it for over a year, I think.

Pros:

  • Excellent ergonomic design (wrist pain disappeared immediately)
  • Has a very soft and comfortable palm rest (which further contributes to keyboard’s ergonomic properties)
  • It works perfectly on both XP and Vista
  • Has lots of special keys (some of which I find very useful): multimedia control keys, search and mail keys, calculator launch key (a bit of an odd choice?), browser back/forward keys, the zoom controller and 5 application launch keys
  • Special keys can be remapped to perform other functions

Note: I have always thought of browser back/forward keys as a useless addition, but now that I’ve remapped them to “Next/Previous Track” function – they are indispensable.

Cons:

  • The zoom key is for the most part useless and, unlike other special keys, cannot be mapped to another function
  • The keyboard is NOT wireless (which might not be an issue for other people)

My next purchase will be the recently launched Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Desktop 7000. (Christmas present)

It has all the aforementioned benefits of the previous model, comes with an ergonomic mouse, AND (most important of all) IT’S WIRELESS!
