This entry is about Draco, an Open Source application written in Java that provides so much statistical functionality, that if this app improves very much more I will not need any other package. Do not let the Econometrics label throw you, this package includes ordinary, two stage, logistics, and nonlinear Least Square Regression of data !!!! If you have no need or knowledge of what I am talking about about then you should consider a simple plotting package like Excel, or Open Office Calc.

For the rest of us who actually know what power is available in ANOVA, or Variational Analysis this package is a pocketbook saver. The graphics are a little primitive compared to some commercial applications, especially since there is no provision for 3D plots, but all in all this is a fine 1 or 2 Dimensional statistical analysis package that I am happy to use and promote.

The really nice interoperability features include:

  1. All documents are stored in an an SQLite Database, so any SQLite tools can be used on this database, incase you want to preform some sophisticated SQL queries on your data.
  2. Draco Imports Text Files
  3. Draco Exports comma delimited text files, if you insist on using Excel.
  4. Draco saves and loads OpenDocument spreadsheet format used by the Open Office Calc program, so you can go back and forth with data sets to your heart’s desire.
