President Bill Clinton famously said “I feel your pain“.

It is very unlikely. President and Senator Clinton have made approximately one hundred and nine million dollars ($109,000,000.00) since 2000. And this is not a condemnation of free enterprise. Kudos for earning such a lucrative income. The Clintons are not alone. Senator Obama has considerable wealth, as does the Senator McCain and his family.

These politicians may talk about the economic pressures but…

  • have they had to wonder and worry about how to pay the rent?
  • have they filled the car with less gas so that the family budget is not exceeded for the week?
  • have they searched for bargains so that the family food funds lasts until the next paycheck?
  • have they ever delayed a visit to the doctor because there isn’t enough money in the bank account?
  • have they ever had to consider that an illness to one of the children would mean financial ruin to the family?

Of course, the answer is “no”. These politicians understand it from a distance. It is an intellectual exercise. For so many of their fellow citizens, it is a harsh reality. And in the light of day, these politicians have no idea of the constant cloud of worry, concern and fear that their fellow citizens live with from day to day. No idea whatsoever…
