For those of you who are Starbucks addicts, you will have noticed that the barista’s call out drinks in a certain order. This order is defined throughout the Starbuck’s universe and remains constant in every store. Have you ever wondered how to order your drink like a pro?

You’ll notice that every cup has a series of boxes:

  • Decaf
  • Shots
  • Syrup
  • Milk
  • Custom
  • Drink

The great thing about the process is that you read straight down the cup (with a few exceptions). So a grande latte with vanilla syrup and nonfat milk would read: grande vanilla nonfat latte. See how it rolls off of your tongue better? Let’s try another. How about a tall decaf mocha with extra whipped cream. It would read: decaf tall extra whip mocha. The above example is one of the few exceptions to the ‘law of Starbucks’: decaf is always called first.  Another nifty fact is that an Americano has an extra shot of espresso in it (grade gets 3, instead of the normal 2)!

Stay tuned for future Starbucks secrets!
