The guys at AnandTech are always on the trail of something. Today it was a preliminary report of the Nehalem CPU from Intel.

The information was spotty, but one thing is for sure, it’s way faster than anything extant. The samples that AnandTech had, on an admittedly not-so-greatly-tuned motherboard showed 20-30% greater performance than any Core 2 processor, regardless of speed.

The motherboards will have single or triple memory busses, and the memory controller is now on the chip, so the FSB bottleneck is gone.

Speed costs, in computers, as in cars, so there is going to have to be some heavy saving in many households for the update to a Nehalem chip, motherboard, and a load of DDR3 memory.

Further good news – Vista will run like a stuck pig on this stuff!
