MediaPortal is open source software that can be downloaded and will allow you to record your shows on the computers hard drive and watch them later. The list of supported cards that are recommended includes the Fire DTV, Floppy DTV, and LifeView FlyTV. The Nice thing about using the Fly TV is the card uses dual tuners so you can record one show while watching another digital channel, but this card does require a PCI slot, while the other devices only require having a firewire port !!
The website has been updated, and has an installation “How to” but uses the several Hauppage TV cards, and hardware encoding cards. Talk about envy !!! Talk about crave !!! All working on Windows XP Pro SP2 !!! Now if only this could work with HDTV even in 720p, or 1080i Then I would be set, for all the recording that would come over the airwaves.
Their system has plugin’s so that you can provide “Electronic Program Guides”, “Human Interface Programmer”, “Autostart”, and a whole lot of others that I have no time to go through.
I have not installed this software, because I have no extra computer right now, my only extra computer that I was going to use, lost it’s fan on a bridge chip and burned to a crisp !! So now i have to wait until i can buy another really really really cheap computer to try this on !!
