Every Apple fan boy who has used Imovie HD was rather dissapointed at the latest release Imovie 08. They removed a lot of features to make it simpler. If you are looking at my twitter you know that I have been doing some movie making latley. I have been using Imovie 08 to do this; it is not the first movie i have made in Imovie 08. So, in doing this I have put together my own list of complaints and such. I will use a bullet list to do this and follow up with a paragrah or two.
- First of all I have heard some complaining about the new look and way you edit the videos. Personally I like the new look and I think that with a few tweaks it could be better than the time line. You know what have a perfect solution. For somethings you do you just need the time line. So, why don’t they include a switch to let you switch between time line and the “new” way. This would solve that problem well.
- Next, they have removed a lot of not really advanced features, but features more for the tech savvy. There are one of two ways to fix this. First, you could put a menu in the top named advanced and have all these more involved features there. Secondly and probably the best, you could put an option in the preference pain to allow you to turn on and of the “advanced” mode. If they would do this I would be happy
- Finally they have removed bunches of old titles and transitions. I like the new additions to the program, but why would they remove some of the older ones. This is the most simple to fix. You just add them back.
So all of these are some of what I have missed so far in Imovie 08. I am unable to comprehend why they would do this, but who knows. I also don’t think that they did this to sell more copies of Final Cut. I think they did this trying to make it more simple and easier for the average person, but they made a few mistakes. I hope they will make an update with some changes. They are on the right track just in the wrong direction. Please let me know what you think. If you use Imovie 08 tell me what you miss.
