The outsourcing trend is coming to the print media. It may be one of the strongest indicators that advertising revenue and circulation are dropping. In a struggling economy, one newspaper is looking to India for editing services:
“An Indian company will take over copy editing duties for some stories published in The Orange County Register and will handle page layout for a community newspaper at the company that owns the Pulitzer Prize-winning daily, the newspaper confirmed Tuesday.”
The editing may be good quality but it will not have the nuances of someone from the local community. At the beginning of this decade, such steps in the print media was mere speculation. Now, for the publications in the smaller markets, such strategies may be a means of surviving a bit longer in competing with the internet.
