It’s becoming more common. People using their cell phone outside of the country and getting hit with a cell phone bill that’s in the thousands. The problem is so bad that recently an iPhone user decided to sue AT&T over a $2,000 bill. It happened to this person too. A $6,000 bill and he didn’t even use his phone during his trip to Mexico.

When customers call to complain about these types of charges, the cell phone company will usually throw their arms in the air and blame a third party company. ‘Oh, there is nothing we can do. Another company is charging you these rates!’ Yeah right! They just can’t possibly do anything about it. BS! They could easily refuse to allow their customers to be charged these insane amounts if they really wanted to. The same thing goes for the common Internet ringtone scams that have become a common problem. But they are making too much money. Why do that?

It’s worth noting that both of the cases I’ve mentioned are related to AT&T. But customers have suffered this problem with other companies. Looks like it’s best to keep your phone off as soon as you get close to another country.
