The Brett Favre / Green Bay Packer situation changes daily. For example, one day there are reports that Brett Favre is going to appear at training camp. It soon follows that there has been a change of plans. The soap opera updates at a head-spinning speed. What is latest news in the morning may be invalid by the afternoon.
Today, however, the situation became green. There are serious dollars involved. The Green Bay Packers management is willing to pay Brett Favre to stay away and continue his retirement:
“…The marketing deal, worth a reported $20 million over 10 years, might end Favre’s bid to return just months after retiring, and presumably would keep him from reporting to Packers training camp when the team is not planning for him to start. Favre confirmed he was considering the marketing deal to ESPN Thursday.”

It may be called a “marketing deal”. It may be called an incentive. Also, it may be called a bribe. It seems that the Green Bay Packers want to move forward so badly without Brett Favre that they are willing to concoct a financial incentive for him to stay away. Management wants Brett Favre to stay away from Green Bay and to stay away from playing for another NFL team. The Green Bay Packers are willing to pay out twenty million dollars to end this public relations nightmare.
It may seem like an odd question but… “can anyone be insulted by twenty million dollars?”. If Brett Favre takes this offer, it will show his true colours. Forget all the talk about competing. Forget all the rhetoric about the love of the game. It will show that the core of the issue was money. And what the Green Bay Packers fans will remember about Brett Favre will be that he had a price. And he could be bought.
