I recently had my XBox 360 get the dreaded Red Ring of Death aka RROD. I contacted Microsoft and they said that it was a hardware error and that they would fix it free of charge. I must say that made me pretty happy. I also got a free month of XBox Live Gold as well.
I have had my XBox back for about 3 weeks now and I have noticed something really strange. I have gotten the RROD 3 times since I have had it back but the strange thing is, I can make it happen.
On my XBox power cord I have an adapter that changes it from a 3 prong plug to a 2 prong plug. My power cable is basically laying in the middle of the floor next to my entertainment center and if the XBox power cable comes unplugged, not all the way but right before it is about to power off it will Red Ring for some reason.
I’m not sure if Microsoft knows about this or not but I might email them to inform them. I was thinking, could this possibly be the reason why some people get the RROD?
