A couple of notes in email have been mentioned this today. Dawn Kawamoto has posted on this too. NewEgg, the online retailer, is not charging the New York sales tax:
“…The move by Newegg reverses action the online retailer took in June, in which it began to charge applicable sales tax for all shipments to New York, following passage of a new state law that required certain companies to charge sales tax on shipments to New York state.”
The New York legislation was focused on having the internet retailer collect the sales tax. NewEgg may have set a precedent. Undoubtedly, there will be a response from the New York state legal people and tax department.
