Technology is a vital part of this presidential campaign. Not only has the internet been a lucrative source of campaign funds, now the iPhone will be used to a tool to reach the candidate’s supporters:
“US Democratic candidate Barack Obama is set to turn the iPhone into a political recruiting tool with an application aimed at getting the vote out.
The software has a “Call Friends” option to help organise contacts in swing states.”
In a close election, maintaining contact with the voters is essential. This is yet another example of how technology is being leveraged to gain an advantage. The iPhone application reaches a key demographic for the Democratic campaign. The Republican side will respond similarly. However, in terms of mobile technology in the race to November 4th, 2008, the time advantage falls to the Democratic side.
